In the Market for 3 or 4 Wheeled Walkers?

When shopping for a 3 or 4 wheeled walker, here are keypoints to help you find the right one for you!
1) All walkers should list a user height that the walker is designed for. For example, someone that is 5'6" should look for a walker that "fits users 5'6" to 6'".
2) There is a corresponding seat height to each user height. For users with longer or shorter legs in relation to their height, look for a walker with the correct seat height. For example, if you have shorter legs, look for a shorter seat height such as 18".
3) Seat width is usually not adjustable, so make sure you find the right size to fit the width of your hips.
4) Weight Capacity of the walker, and the weight of the walker itself should be taken into consideration. For example, most walkers fold up so you can take them in your car with you, so make sure you can lift the walker if needed. You also want to ensure that the walker can handle the seated weight of the user.
5) Adjustable handle height ensures the walker will be a good fit. Good posture is important, so make sure the user is not slumping over, or not able to slightly lean on the walker for support.
6) Most walkers have 8" wheels - make sure they are not smaller than this to ensure easier travel over various terrains.

We offer a wide range of Wheeled Walkers, including Nova and Guardian walkers along with the new HybridLX Rollator Transport Chair combo!

The Golden Years

Getting older stinks. Everyone but our youth understands that.

Hair disappears only to be found growing in odd places. Joints make the sound of a popular brand of cereal, and start to ache when the weather changes. Glasses need to be purchased, or made stronger and more "versatile" with bi or tri focals. Hearing aids are needed so that larger gatherings are more enjoyable and you dont have to stand there just smiling and nodding.

If you think about it, there are so many products out there that make getting older so much easier. Little tools and gadgets that our grandparents never dreamed of having. They improve the quality of life substantially!

I love hearing about seniors getting out and about and being active and embracing their life, even if it is somewhat modified because they now have to use a walking cane for stability. They have made the choice to not sit and become more immobile!

I intend to fight my age with every gadget I can get my hands on. I want my grandchildren to have to keep up with ME! I want to hear those whispered secrets, and actually be able to see and find them in a game of hide and seek.

There is no shame in needing a little help as we age.

We at Mountain View have a wide variety of Mobility Products. I have decided when the time comes, I'm going to get me a walking cane in Blue Floral because it represents my personality and adds some style!

Wisdom of the 40 Year Old

I am 40 years old today!

I quite enjoyed my 30's, so turning 40 is something I didnt necessarily want to happen. I have always embraced my age and its been my policy to divulge my true age when asked. It is part of who I am and I should never be ashamed!

I have repeatedly been told that the 40's are awesome! So Im going with "the 40's are the new 30's". And that means the 30's are the new 20's. And the 20's are the new teenagers. Makes sense, if you think about it.

As men age, they become more "distinguished". As women age, they become "cougars". Being distinguished sounds stuffy and boring. Being a cougar sounds WAY more fun! RAWR!

So, Im sharing my wisdom of being 40 and staying young!

TOP 5 FROZEN MEALS (all entries are less than 400 calories for those of you who have a metabolism that has been thrown-into-reverse, like mine):
SmartOnes Santa Fe Style Rice - for those days when you need a creamy, cheesy, Mexican meal with a bit of kick.
Lean Cuisine Lasagne with Meat Sauce - when you might be extra hungry and in the mood for Italian, this fits the bill. Best individual frozen lasagne I have found!
Lean Cuisine Spa Series Butternut Squash Ravioli - if you like squash you will love this dish - full of veggies and great flavor!
Michelina's Lean Budget Gourmet Salisbury Steak & Potatoes - best low-calorie salisbury steak I have found and cheap too (usually about $1)! When I am a bit more hungry, I bring a bag of veggies and add to this meal and its still comes in under 400 calories!
Marie Calendar Pasta al Dente Beef Bolognese Rigatoni - has it all - tasty beef, pasta, sauce and veggies.
HONORABLE MENTION: SmartOnes Stone Fired Pizza - best taste hands down, with a crisp crust, nice sauce and tasty toppings! I prefer pepperoni.

TOP 5 FUNNY MOVIES (disclaimer: I have been told I have a quirky sense of humor, so watch at your own risk) (disclaimer, continued: pretty much ALL of these must be watched multiple times to get the full-funny-effect):
The Coneheads - starring Dan Akroyd and Jane Curtin. Martians living on earth, trying to blend in and raise a family the American way. 1993
To Wong Fu, Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar - starring Wesley Snipes, Patrick Swayze and John Lequizamo - all dressed in drag and stranded in a small Nebraska town. 1995
Mars Attacks - starring Jack Nicholson, Glenn Close and Annette Benning. Martians with a cruel sense of humor! 1996
Joe Dirt - starring David Spade and Dennis Miller. A nod to the 80's, so I couldnt resist! Plus the soundtrack was FUN! 2001
Patch Adams - starring Robin Williams, Daniel London and Monica Potter. A 70's medical student who treats patients illegally with humor. 1998
Monsters, Inc. - Starring John Goodman and Billy Crystal. I love animation movies for kids that ensure the parents are also entertained! 2001
HONORABLE MENTION: Toy Story and Shrek - both fulfilled the parent entertainment requisite for an animated kid movie!

You now have quick, cheap, butt-friendly dinners and movies to make you laugh - The secret to staying young!

Mother Natures Shenanigans!

We woke up with snow on the ground this morning here in the Denver Metro Area. Snow!

It wasn't much, but it was a little disheartening since so many flowers are in bloom and delicate vegitation will probably have a bit of stunted growth.

For once, the weekend is bringing warmer weather, and by warmer I mean a high of 70 degrees. Then, come Monday, we dip down into the 40's again with rain. It's almost mid-May for crying out loud!

If it weren't for the spectacular blooms this year, I think we would all be way more upset with Mother Nature's Shenanigans!

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Rental vs. Purchase

Yesterday, we had a very nice lady inquire about purchasing a knee walker/rolleraid. She said she priced rentals locally and decided to purchase, and then resell the rolleraid for a fraction of the original cost to recoup her expense. She needed the rolleraid for about 8 weeks while recovering from surgery.

When we informed her we also rented knee walkers/rolleraid, she said she found it was cheaper to purchase since rental rates of these fun little knee walkers was so high.

Little did she know that OUR rental rates were so low!

We often have customers come to us needing wheelchairs, walkers or knee walkers for temporary reasons and feel that they should just go ahead and purchase. Our suggestion is to always shop around because prices for rentals and purchases vary greatly.

For example, our knee walker/rolleraid costs $416.67 brand new. Our rental rate for this item is $85/month. So if you only need this item for a two month recovery, you can save yourself almost $250!

Transport wheelchairs start at about $150, but you can rent one from us for $50 per month!

Our rental fleet includes wheelchairs (both transport and dual axle), folding aluminum walkers, knee walker/rolleraids and tri-fold ramps.

For rental rates or more information, call us at 800-873-7121 or visit our website

Better Living Corner - Wound Care Supplies

In most homes, we all have bandaids, antibiotic ointment and maybe a roll of gauze and tape. That is the extent of the "wound care" section in the medicine cabinet.

Sunny asked: My son had a doozy of a bicycle accident. Our doctor sent us home all bandaged up, but I need more than the basic supplies. What wound care supplies are available?

We answered: Wound care has come a long way and there is a wide array of products available for wounds from burns to lacerations and major road rash.

Here is a basic rundown on Wound Care Supplies:

Adhesive Tapes come in elastic/stretchy, cloth, paper, plastic, breathable, see-through and with or without strong adhesion.

DuoDerm Dressing is a hydrocolloid/gel forming agent and is moisture retentive for high exudating wounds (leaking).

Gauze Pads & Drain Sponges are available in a wide variety of styles and types and are absorbent for different types of exudation. There literally is something for everything available these days!

Hydropolymer or Hydrogel Dressing is an "island dressing" with an adhesive border and central foam to absorb exudate.

Non-Adherent Dressings use no adhesive and the contact layer will not stick to the wound. These require some other form of retention such as tape.

Packing Strips can be impregnated with iodoform solution and are used for nasal passages, drain wicks or packing deep wounds.

Self Adherent Wrap is elastic wrap that functions as tape but only sticks to itself, not the skin.

Self Adherent Dressings are used for longer term coverage and protection, adhere to the skin and are either absorbent island style or transparent and breathable.

Of course this is just a simple breakdown of what is available! For more information or for help in finding the right wound care supplies for you, call us at 800-873-7121 or visit our website! We are happy to help you find what you need!
